October 25, 2021 FNA General Membership Meeting

Call to order

Office Garner (NPO)

  • Recent crime- 2 burglary arrests: one was staying in vacant houses in Fairmount and Ryan Place.
  • Remember to lock your car doors. Also, do not leave guns in your vehicle.

Officer Zuniga (Code Compliance)

  • Department will be in the neighborhood checking property maintenance and junk.
  • Vehicles that are dismantled and/or have flat tires will be tagged.
  • Trailers must be kept behind a privacy fence and are not to exceed 40’ in length, letters will be sent to those not complying with code.
  • 72-hour window allowed for loading/unloading of trailers.
  • Always welcome to call/text him for follow up on code complaints at 817-932-3451.

Elizabeth Beck

  • Clarification on flood plain letters that were sent to some Fairmount residents.
  • Those homes are not in FEMA designated flood plains and are not required to have flood insurance.
  • City determined these areas are prone to flooding during big rain events and are suggesting homeowners get insurance.
  • Elizabeth is going to see if a copy of the new flood plain map can be provided to neighborhood.
  • Recommended downloading the Ft Worth app.
  • 11/13- Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway with Fire Station Community Center
  • Tenants rights and warrant forgiveness will also coincide with the meal giveaway.

September Meeting Minutes Approved

2021-2022 Budget Review

  • Large increase in Newsletter Printing to support 2 newsletters a year (Home Tour and Festivus).
  • Home Tour Booklet expense reduced, will be returning to previous version that is smaller and more affordable.
  • $2,000 was removed from the PTAs/School Special Projects and was replaced with $1,000 in School Engagement.
  • Historic Scholarship was added to Historic Preservation Expenses to help with the cost of historic preservation designation plaques.
  • Budget approved.

Fairmount Fall Fest

  • 10/31 3:30-5:30 in Fairmount Park,
  • Volunteers needed to move tables & chairs from the storage unit.

Scaremount

  • Cards will be available at the Fall Fest, will show location of decorated homes.

November Food Drive

  • Details to come regarding porch drop-off of food items.

Fairmount Festivus

  • Date to be determined.

Membership Holiday Party

  • Discussed upcoming Party. Need volunteers for the party committee

David Weuste

  • Southside City Church is planning on using vacant property they own behind the Whataburger on Hemphill to build 4 tiny homes for 8 unhoused people and 1 community manager.
  • Hemphill Task Force is supportive.
  • Southside City Church will be looking for letters of support from neighborhood association in the near future.

Tandramika Johnson (Program Director, Fire Station Community Center)

  • Lights On- Free event 10/28 from 4-6 pm, draws attention to their after school programs.
  • Halloween Fall Fest- 10/30 from 5-9pm, pumpkin decoration, costume contest, trick or treating, fortune teller, photo booth, and maze.
  • Thanksgiving Food Drive- accepting donations from 11/1-11/13.

Austin Reed (Infrastructure)

  • Provided update on Michael McDermott’s behalf
  • New paint is being stripped off the columns at 2216 6th .
  • Old garage has been torn down on Hurley, was non-historic from 1950s and in danger of collapsing.
  • Will be following up on concerns with unfinished city streetlight at the corner of Washington and Allen.

Reminder that 10/30 the Kindness Duck Project comes to Fort Worth.

  • Trinity Park from 10am to dusk.
