- Two types of flooding
- FEMA floodplains- flood insurance is required inside these floodplains
- Non-FEMA flood risk areas
- There are no FEMA floodplains in the Fairmount neighborhood
- Primary cause of flood risk is undersized or obsolete storm drain systems
- Green areas marked on presentation map are old streams and if storm water is overfilling pipes the water is likely to follow those old stream paths
- Properties within 50 feet of a green area are in a flood risk area
- Pink areas are areas likely to flood due to storm drain flooding. Many drains are old
- Clair will follow up as to whether the work completed on 8th and Arlington involved any improvement to the storm drains
- Through the OneAddress site (http://oneaddress.fortworthtexas.gov) people can find flood information about their properties
- Upcoming efforts
- FEMA Map revisions- portions of Tarrant county are being revised, FEMA maps will not change for the Fairmount area
- City flood risk areas- refining now, final in June
- Potential high water areas- final end of 2022
