Fairmount National Historic District General Meeting

May 24, 2016

Meeting Called to Order by Pat Bradley – 7:00 p.m.

Introduction of New Members – two new member households

AGENDA

Neighborhood Police Officer Update – Sergio Guadarrama (FTW NPO OF THE YEAR!)

  • 6 car break-ins last week
    • This set is different in that windows are getting smashed
    • Please take stuff out of your car to reduce enticement
  • The 5th Ave car chase originated on S. Division. Burglars wrecked they car near Carshon’s. No injuries.
  • Parking enforcement will be stepped up in Fairmount and all of Fort Worth. THIS is our warning.

Sherry Hudson & Matt Sinclaire – Boys & Girls Club

  • 1500 Hemphill (Panther Club)
  • 2nd oldest club in the US
  • 700 kids, about 250 attend each day
  • Day time & evening programs
  • For disadvantage youth; dues = $10/yr; many scholarships (80%) offered against dues
  • After school/summer programs focus on literacy programs, citizenship & healthy lifestyles
  • Evening programs: ages = 13-24; 7-11 pm. Multiple sites.
    • Offer case management to identify goals
    • Partner with other groups to offer occupational skills training
    • GED instruction
    • Sports leagues
    • Community service projects
    • Internal internship programs for those with interest in further supporting Panther.

Erin Oliveras – City of Fort Worth, Office of Community Engagement

  • Call Code to report unmanaged pools of stagnant water for mosquito control

  • FYI: pizza boxes are now recyclable

Melanie Dotzour – Finance

  • Expect to clear about $20K from Home Tour
  • Checking acct = $19,158.09
  • Savings acct = $17,849.55
  • CD acct = $17,799.67
  • Garden acct = $4227.22

Kim Worley – Administration

  • Could not find the words to fully express her gratitude to the 200+ volunteers who stepped forward to help make the 2016 Home Tour a raving success. (Sidebar: Kim Worley is getting slightly teary-eyed just reliving the moment. J)

Position Open – Infrastructure

  • David Thrapp is likely to assume this role once the Public Safety role is filled
  • Huge thanks to Roy Neese, Ralph Watterson and Robert Wedding for getting the Fairmount Park sign replaced before Home Tour

Martin Dahl – Historic Preservation

  • Just a few cases under evaluation last month
  • In reference to FB swirl, Kent & Co buildings are being vetted by Historic Preservation Team
  • “Contributing House” list (the one which designates whether your home must continue to adhere to guidelines due to the number of exterior elements which remain in the period of interest) is back on the website. We will be adding homes, so please check with Martin before making changes to the exterior of your home.
  • Carol & Ray Feyen are retiring from painting the Fairmount curb numbers. Please let us know if you are interested in inheriting this function.

Alex Theiroff – Promotions

  • Brewed’s Coffee vs. Beer Brewers Whiffle Ball Game supporting the Fairmount Library was May 24.
  • June 17 Social at Robert Wedding’s home at 1724 5th Ave
  • Robert Wedding will be assuming the lead on Fairmount Socials. Thanks George Achziger!
  • Fairmount vs. Ryan Place annual soft ball grudge match will occur July 4 weekend.

Stacy Luecker – Communications

  • Over 600 Home Tour tickets sold online this year.
  • Please send articles for our weekly community update email.

Carrie Carter – Membership

  • If in doubt, please double-check your membership at the check-in desk to ensure you’re still valid
