Discussion about volunteering for the COPS (Citizens on Patrol) program.  This program helps reduce the crime rate in our neighborhood by putting extra eyes on patrol.  According to the current city Citizens on Patrol Standard Operating Procedures (revised in October 2017), interested parties must not have a criminal record; be over 18 years of age; attend 4 hours of classroom instructions and then later will be scheduled for a ride along with a Fort Worth Police Officer, and be able to donate a minimum of 4 hours per month in either manning the patrol’s base station or actually conducting the street patrolling. If you are interested in joining this program please contact our director of public safety, Steve Voltmann:  publicsafety@historicfairmount.com.

  • The Hemphill Corridor Vision Project is underway in its very beginning stages. The taskforce realizes the corridor will become very desirable to developers and wishes to protect the area from random infill. An overlay for development is underway and will be brought to residents for feedback and input later in the year.
  • The Fort Worth Public Arts has been granted $229,620.00 towards public art along Magnolia. Bond sites have been identified at Lake and Henderson, but art will not be located at any one particular intersection, but rather art along the avenue. A call will go out to pre-qualified artists requesting a letter of intent relating the artists’ work to the Near Southside.  A review panel, which includes Robbie Werner of Stir Crazy and Sara Karashin with the FNA will choose a selection of 3-5 artists plus an alternate.
  • Joe’s Run 10k by the Samaritan House will go through the neighborhood on June 1st from 7:30 am-10:00am. Affected streets are Hemphill down to Elizabeth, up 5th Ave, across Park Place, Down Fairmount, across Elizabeth, and up 8th Ave.
