September 26, 2022 General Meeting Minutes

Call to order: 7:02 PM

President Amber Heard

  • Welcomed group 

Officer Garner

  • Trespassing
    • Jail Diversion Center (located in our neighborhood) serves as a diversion from jail for individuals with mental health disorders who have committed a non-violent offense such as criminal trespassing. Officer’s discretion whether to take them to the center or to jail. 
    • For trespassing in the community garden- Officer Garner needs to have a garden representative available to say whether a person is allowed or is trespassing. Suzanne Mabe stated any member can make that determination.
    • For trespassing at the former 7/11 on the corner of Allen and Hemphill- Officer Garner is trying to get in contact with the new owners. No Trespassing signs need to be put up so police can remove individuals who are on the property.
    • The skate park being constructed is on city property, so police can make any trespassers leave the grounds.
  • Neighbor voiced concern about another neighbor who appears to be having mental health struggles and is screaming profanities outside. Officer Garner said he can issue a disorderly conduct ticket if the person is offended by the language. Option to record the incident or contact police at the time it is occurring.
  • Interim code enforcement officer- Raul Aguirre

Finance- Regina Jackman

  • Audit report
    • 8/31- Audit committee reviewed finances. Everything appeared good. Corrective action plan for reimbursements that were going through a board member to a lawn maintenance company- use of the reimbursement form.
  • Finance report
    • Vote on annual budget will occur at next meeting
    • Income $41,433.61   Expenses $23,176.38   Net Income $18,257.23
    • Checking $8,040.76   Savings $31,358.40

Upcoming Events

  • National Night Out- 10/4. At Firestation Community Center
  • Fall Fest- being brought back again. Date to be determined, but looking for volunteers
  • Festivus- 12/10. At One Safe Place.
    • Breakfast with Santa will be happening that morning
    • Sponsored trees by 4PM
    • 6:30- 7PM start
    • No bus this year
    • Deadline to be added to the map- 12/1
  • FNA Christmas Party- 12/11. At Arts Fifth Avenue. 

Community Garden- Suzanne Mabe

  • Reminder that garden plots are leased until January, for the plots that are not renewed- will be available in February
  • Has Fairmount Community Garden t-shirts for sale

Membership- Barbara Crotty

  • Reminder to renew yearly membership, if have not already done so

Other Business

  • Frida Castaneda- has a children’s book about her cat, Dan the Cat Who Can
    • Interested in holding a book reading in the community garden with Lt. Dan
  • Fairmount cat calendar for 2023
    • Rebecca Waugh (artist that designed “The World Famous Texas Alphabet Coloring Book”) and Frida Castaneda created it
    • Will include Fairmount events
    • Proceeds will go to Meowtown Animal Rescue
    • Will be for sale through their social media pages 
  • Voter registration- Suzanne Mabe will have information today after the meeting.
    • Deadline to register is 10/11
  • Daggett Elementary School is looking for donations to purchase a new PA system
    • Discussion that a monetary commitment to all the schools in the neighborhood would be a part of this year’s budget
  • Historic Fort Worth event- Martin Dahl encouraged people to attend
    • Annual Presentation Awards ceremony in conjunction with the Cantey Lecture series
    • On 10/20 at 5:30 PM in the Everly Plaza Gallery
    • Tickets available on the HFW website
