March 1, 2021 FNA Board Meeting

  • Official board business
    • Membership has requested a sabbatical and need to decide whether we need to find someone to replace or appoint someone
    • Suggested that since we have about 4 months we should find someone to take over
    • Try to find someone who has been in the position to fill in for the time being
    • Storage went up $600 from last year
  • Hemphill Corridor Taskforce
    • Nothing is going to the city for rezoning no sooner than June
    • There have been online meetings and because of the feedback they are taking all of it into consideration before going back to the city
  • Other online options for General meetings
    • Going to try Zoom and Facebook at the same time and enable focused views
    • We are going to see if that helps with accessibility
  • Next meeting will have 2 more candidates
    • Need to make sure that we seem impartial when they are presenting
    • FNA is non-partisan
  • Communications
    • Need help with the Spring Digital newsletter
    • Looking for content
    • Pitch to the candidates to buy ad space in the newsletter
  • Historic Preservation
    • Need to get updated pictures of the houses on the blocks
    • Applying for a Grant awarded to organizations like ours
    • A few houses have been reported for violations to the building standards in the neighborhood
    • New investors had a positive experience renovating a duplex and keeping the historical details on the inside of the home
    • New group who specializes in performing in time period events and are in contact to possibly show up to home tour
  • Home Tour
    • Needs all of our help when available
    • Thursday meeting for the Home Tour committee
    • Going to have pods of houses in different blocks in the neighborhood and will have certain homeowners talking about the history of their homes
    • Others will be giving garden tours of their homes
    • If the COVID vaccination goes well, we have the ability to sell a higher cost ticket to have a limited viewing inside the home
    • Southside Preservation Hall is willing to give tours of the gardens and the inside if the health crisis allows for it
