Fairmount Halloween 2020

Happy Halloween Fairmount Neighbors! With the pandemic still very much in Fort Worth, the FNA Board has been listening to the feedback, concerns, and wishes of the neighborhood, and have come up with some fun opportunities to still make this the best neighborhood to get your spooky-fun on.

Trick or Treat!

For those wishing to have something for any who may still be trick-or-treating, we wanted to emphasize these points from the CDC’s “Moderate Risk” category of Halloween Guidelines as a potentially good route:

  • Participating in one-way trick-or-treating where individually wrapped goodie bags are lined up for families to grab and go while continuing to social distance (such as at the end of a driveway or at the edge of a yard).
  • If you are preparing goodie bags, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 second before and after preparing the bags.
  • A costume mask (such as for Halloween) is not a substitute for a cloth mask. A costume mask should not be used unless it is made of two or more layers of breathable fabric that covers the mouth and nose and doesn’t leave gaps around the face.
  • Do not wear a costume mask over a protective cloth mask because it can be dangerous if the costume mask makes it hard to breathe. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask.

The #Scaremount2020 Scavenger Hunt

We also want to provide some fun options for those who may not feel comfortable to trick-or-treat this year, but still want a fun Halloween day/night. And so, we are announcing the inaugural Scaremount Scavenger Hunt!

The #Scaremount2020 Scavenger Hunt:

  • If you have some Halloween fun outside your house, or are planning on doing something particularly spooky or fun on Halloween (and note what time it will begin if it’s something limited to the evening), please send that information to communications@historicfairmount.com so that we can start putting the “hunt”/map together.
  • This will be a fun activity that can be done during the day or night on Halloween allowing you to walk the neighborhood in or out of costume while able to keep some distance and not needing to go from porch-to-porch.
  • While doing the “hunt”, please share on social media with the hashtag #Scaremount2020.
  • There won’t be any prizes or time-limits as the idea is to have an activity folks can do whenever they feel allows them the best opportunity to socially distance.
  • We will make the “hunt” publicly available and printable, which means it can also be an option to pass out in lieu of candy or as a teal pumpkin option.

The Halloween Decorations Contest

Is your house looking a little more than haunted, or have you noticed a particularly spooktacular setup from a neighbor? Send in your nominations for our Halloween House Decoration Contest with photographs that will then be shared on the official Facebook Page for public voting. If you’re unable to get a great photograph, please let us know the address in time to be able to get a photo for you. The top 3 will all win a prize, and the overall winner will be our November Yard of the Month! Submissions should be made to communications@historicfairmount.com (deadline for non-photo-included submissions and nominations is October 27).

The Fairmount Halloween Costume Contest

This year, we’ll also be rewarding those who will be missing their Halloween dress-up opportunities with a virtual costume contest. We’ll have two categories:

1.    Kids Costumes
2.    Adult Halloween-themed Face-Masks

So before, and on Halloween, take photos of your kids in their Halloween attire, or of yourselves (if an adult) in that mask that’s just sure to scare the COVID away, and send them to communications@historicfairmount.com for sharing and voting on Facebook. We have some great prizes for our top-3 in each category!

We hope these things help to keep Fairmount the place to be for Halloween while also keeping everyone safe. So have fun, mask up, stay six feet apart, and send us your ideas and photos!
