Fairmount Neighborhood Association General Membership Meeting 8/27/2018, 7:00 PM, Southside Preservation Hall

7:05 PM Call to order

Board Members in attendance: Sara Karashin, Leah Suasnovar, Breinn Richter, Sean Ford, Melanie Dotzour, Betty Spitzberg, Susan Harper, Geri Cotten

Introduction of new members

Code Compliance Update by Officer Mata: not much to update but please continue to call with any issues

NPO Guadarrama update: no burglaries since July, continue to be vigilant in removal of personal items from vehicles

Update from President, Sara Karashin, we will be re-voting on some items from the previous meeting after a review of the bylaws.  We will also be tabling the bylaw changes and approvals until the new year. The Board will be forming a committee to review and recommend changes.

Voting items:

Board is asking for $5,200 to be approved for a membership in the Safer Southside Alliance for additional private security on Magnolia from Hemphill to Henderson from 8:00pm to 2:30am on Friday and Saturday, and from 11am to 2pm on Sundays.  There was a motion made to approve this membership, which was voted on and approved.

Board is asking for no more than $3000 to install locked electrical outlets at the Community Garden.  The motion is made to approve this expense, and voted on and approved.

2018/2019 Board Member elections:

The position of Communications, Safety, Finance, and Historic Preservation are for election.  The nominating committee, consisting of Leah Suasnovar, Breinn Richter, Sean Ford, Joe Hyun, Pat Bradley and Angela Gaither met on 8/11/18 to consider all eligible candidates for the 2018/2019 term of office. On behalf of the nominating committee, the following candidates are presented for membership’s consideration:

Director of Finance:

Bob Fain

Director of Historic Preservation:

Mike McDermott

Director of Public Safety:

Steve Voltmann

Hugo Zenteno

Call for nominations from the floor – there were no additional nominations, but membership was reminded they could write in candidates if desired on the provided ballot distributed at the beginning of the meeting.

The nominees were given a moment to tell membership about themselves.  Membership proceeded to vote, ballots were collected and counted by Pat Bradley and Joe Hyun.  Pat and Joe presented the majority votes as follows to Sara Karashin, and the following officers will be on the Board for the 2018/2019 years.

Director of Historic Preservation: Mike McDermott

Director of Public Safety: Steve Volttman

Sue McLean with GNAR told membership about an upcoming pet vaccination clinic at Firestation park from 10 am to noon.  Low cost vaccination and worm testing to be provided.
